Projection, contour, and the orange-peel dimpling that comes from an overactive mentalis muscle.
The chin sits at the bottom of the face and provides structural balance for the entire lower third. A receded or weak chin can make the nose appear larger, the neck look more sloped, and the jawline read less defined. Treatment that addresses the chin often improves how the entire face reads in profile.
Two main treatments live here. Filler addresses projection, contour, and width. Botox addresses the mentalis muscle, which creates the dimpling and chin tension that some clients have without realizing it.
Three structures matter for chin treatment.
Bone defines projection. The chin can be receded, balanced, or prominent based on bony anatomy.
Mentalis muscle sits over the chin and contracts when speaking or expressing. Overactive mentalis creates the dimpled, orange-peel texture some clients dislike.
Surrounding fat contributes to the contour and softens or sharpens the bony projection.
Treatment addresses each layer based on what the client wants.
Chin projection is largely genetic. Some clients have always wanted more projection, others always less. Treatment addresses anatomy, not aging.
The mentalis becomes more active with age in some clients, creating dimpling and tension that didn't used to be there. Bone resorption can also change chin position slightly across decades.
Some clients want chin enhancement in this decade for projection or symmetry. Treatment is usually about anatomy, not aging.
Clients with active mentalis muscles may start to notice dimpling in this decade. Botox treatment for the muscle becomes part of the conversation.
Many clients begin to consider chin and jawline together. Projection, contour, and mentalis treatment combine for a balanced lower-face result.
Bone changes and tissue descent may affect the chin's appearance. Treatment plans address both restoration and refinement, often paired with jawline and neck work.
Chin work is a balance of art and structural placement. For projection, we use Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Lyft, or Radiesse, placed deep against the bone. Dosing varies, but a typical projection correction uses half to one full syringe.
For the mentalis, two to four units of Botox per side relaxes the muscle. Results show in five to seven days. The dimpling smooths without affecting speech or expression.
For contour, we sculpt with smaller amounts of filler placed laterally. The goal is to harmonize the chin with the surrounding face, not change the underlying shape dramatically.
We treat the chin as one part of a lower-face plan, often with the jawline. The two areas read together and often need adjustment together.
Each location has its own character. All three share the same standard of care.

Had my first blood draw today with it was INCREDIBLE!!! Also the front desk were all so pleasant especially Kelsie! I highly recommend RN Esthetics!!
I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
I highly recommend RN Esthetics! The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful without making you feel rushed. The facility is spotless and clean, which made me feel even more comfortable and confident being there. Great experience overall!
