Kathleen walked into RN Esthetics in 2012, drawn in by the shingle in Lynnfield. She was carrying decades of damage with her.
When I was a kid, if my skin didn't blister, it wasn't a successful day at the beach. As I started to learn about sun damage, I wanted to investigate what I could do. I have a forward-facing job. I don't want anything extreme, but I want to preserve the quality of my skin for as long as I can.
She turned 60 last week. The math has been on her mind.
Kathleen started with Linda. The first conversation was about not doing anything crazy. She's afraid of everything. Years later, she's with Jenna, who, in Kathleen's words, has to strap her down before treatments.
You can fight it or you can embrace it. Although I have embraced the age, there are little tiny tweaks you can make to slow things down and to look fresher. And to not wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and start the day depressed.
The cadence is set. Every six weeks for a facial as part of the Navy Card membership. Laser treatments, what Kathleen calls the triple whammy, every 18 months when Jenna says it's time.
The work is paying off. People comment. Family included.
When I wake up in the morning and I look in the mirror, you play a role in that every single day. You don't even realize. I think about you in the morning every day, and I say, thank God for Jenna.
