Quieting the muscle stops the grinding.

What it is

Teeth grinding, medically called bruxism, is the chronic clenching or grinding of teeth. It can occur during the day (awake bruxism) or during sleep (sleep bruxism). Sleep bruxism is more common and often goes undetected for years.

The grinding wears down teeth over time, creates chronic jaw muscle tension, and can contribute to headaches, TMJ pain, and disrupted sleep. Botox in the masseter muscle directly reduces the strength of the grinding pattern.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in after their dentist mentions wear on their teeth, or after years of waking up with sore jaws and headaches. Many have tried night guards without significant relief. Masseter Botox addresses the underlying muscle pattern directly.

01

What Causes It

Several factors contribute to teeth grinding.

Stress and anxiety are common triggers, with grinding often worse during stressful life periods.

Sleep disorders including sleep apnea, can drive sleep bruxism.

Genetics contribute. Bruxism runs in families.

Bite misalignment can contribute though research on this is mixed.

Caffeine, alcohol, and certain medications can worsen grinding patterns.

02

Common Signs

Sleep partners or roommates may hear the grinding. Many clients first learn about their grinding from a dentist who sees wear patterns on teeth.

Morning jaw tightness or soreness. Headaches concentrated in the temples. Teeth that look flattened or worn. Sensitivity in teeth from enamel wear. A widened, square lower face from chronic masseter hypertrophy.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Without treatment, teeth grinding tends to persist and worsen, with tooth wear, jaw pain, and headaches all progressing.

With masseter Botox, the grinding pattern weakens significantly for four to six months at a time. Most clients schedule maintenance treatments at this interval.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Several approaches address teeth grinding.

Masseter Botox reduces muscle strength and stops the grinding pattern for four to six months at a time.

Night guards from a dentist protect teeth from grinding damage but don't stop the grinding itself.

Stress management through therapy, meditation, or lifestyle changes can reduce grinding triggers.

Sleep evaluation for clients with possible sleep apnea or other sleep disorders.

How we approach teeth grinding

Masseter Botox is our primary tool for teeth grinding.

We inject Botox into the masseter muscle on each side of the jaw. The muscle weakens over the following two weeks, reducing the strength of the grinding pattern. Most clients see significant reduction in grinding, jaw tension, and headaches within ten to fourteen days.

Results last four to six months. Most clients schedule maintenance at this interval.

For clients with significant masseter hypertrophy (a widened jawline from chronic grinding), the treatment also softens the lower face shape over time as the muscle atrophies. This is an aesthetic benefit alongside the therapeutic effect.

We recommend continuing to wear a night guard for tooth protection, even with Botox treatment.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
