Ingrown hairs are usually a shaving and waxing problem. Removing the hair entirely prevents the problem from recurring.

Ingrown hairs occur when a hair grows back into the skin instead of out of the follicle. The skin treats the hair like a foreign body, creating an inflammatory response: redness, swelling, often a small pus-filled bump.
Ingrown hairs are most common in areas where hair is regularly removed by shaving or waxing: the beard area in men (pseudofolliculitis barbae), the bikini line, underarms, and legs. They're particularly common in clients with curly or coarse hair.
Clients come in frustrated by repeated ingrown hairs that cause inflammation, pigment marks, and ongoing discomfort. They've tried multiple shaving techniques and skincare without significant change. Laser hair removal addresses the root cause.
Several factors create ingrown hairs.
Shaving and waxing are the most common causes. Cut hair edges are sharp and can grow back into the skin instead of out of the follicle.
Hair texture. Curly or coarse hair is more prone to ingrowing.
Tight clothing in areas like the bikini line increases ingrown hair risk.
Dead skin buildup can block follicular openings, forcing hair to grow sideways or back into the skin.
Ingrown hairs appear as red, inflamed bumps, often with a visible dark hair coiled beneath the skin. They can be painful or itchy. Repeated episodes in the same areas can leave post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or small scars.
The most common locations are the beard area (in men), bikini line, underarms, and legs.
Ingrown hairs are episodic and tend to recur as long as the area is being shaved or waxed. Without changing hair management, they typically continue.
With laser hair removal that significantly reduces hair, ingrown hairs typically resolve and don't return.
Several approaches help ingrown hairs.
Laser hair removal is the most reliable long-term fix. Significantly reducing hair eliminates most ingrowns.
Improved shaving technique with sharp single-blade razors, shaving in the direction of hair growth, and avoiding pulling skin taut.
Chemical exfoliants with salicylic or glycolic acid keep follicles clear and prevent buildup.
Switching to depilatory creams instead of shaving for some clients.
Letting hair grow entirely. Not always practical but eliminates the cause.
For clients with chronic ingrown hairs, laser hair removal is our primary recommendation. The reduction in hair density typically eliminates ingrowns entirely. Most clients see significant improvement after three to four sessions.
For clients who want to keep some hair growth but reduce ingrowns, we often recommend chemical exfoliants with salicylic acid in the affected areas and improved shaving technique. We may also recommend HydraFacial or peels for the bikini line or back for clients with persistent issues.
For post-inflammatory pigment marks left by previous ingrowns, BBL or topical brightening serums can help fade the marks during or after the laser treatment series.
At RN Esthetics, every treatment starts with listening. We are nurse practitioners, registered nurses and estheticians who treat every client as the hero of their own story.
No real downtime. You may have mild redness for a short time after extractions, but skin generally looks brighter and more hydrated the same day. Custom facials are easy to do before an event or on a normal day.
The seaside facial is Patty's signature treatment, a slower, deeply relaxing facial built around her massage technique that works the face and the nervous system at once. Patty is the only provider who performs it, so book with her specifically.
We do. The teen and tween facial focuses on active breakouts and, just as much, on education, teaching younger clients how to care for their skin so good habits start early. It is a calm, no-pressure introduction to professional skincare.

Had my first blood draw today with it was INCREDIBLE!!! Also the front desk were all so pleasant especially Kelsie! I highly recommend RN Esthetics!!
I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
I highly recommend RN Esthetics! The staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful without making you feel rushed. The facility is spotless and clean, which made me feel even more comfortable and confident being there. Great experience overall!
