Dehydrated Skin, Replenished

What it is

Dehydrated skin is a condition characterized by lack of water content in the skin, distinct from dry skin, which is a skin type characterized by lack of oil production. Even oily skin can be dehydrated. Even dry skin can be hydrated.

Dehydrated skin typically feels tight, looks dull, shows fine lines more readily, and has a rough or flaky surface. The fix is water content, not oil.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in concerned about dullness, fine lines, and the feeling that their skin looks tired. They've often been using moisturizers without significant change. Treatment that adds water at the cellular level, through HA serums and Skinvive, finally addresses the root concern.

01

What Causes It

Several factors cause skin dehydration.

Environmental factors like heating, air conditioning, low humidity, and travel pull water from the skin.

Aging reduces the skin's natural ability to hold water as hyaluronic acid production declines.

Harsh skincare with stripping cleansers or over-exfoliation damages the barrier and accelerates water loss.

Hormonal changes particularly perimenopause and menopause, reduce skin hydration.

Internal hydration matters less than topical hydration, but inadequate water intake doesn't help.

02

Common Signs

Dehydrated skin feels tight after cleansing. Lines look more visible. The surface may feel rough or flaky despite appearing oily. Makeup may not sit smoothly.

The dehydration line test: pinch the skin under the cheek. Hydrated skin springs back immediately. Dehydrated skin shows brief lines before settling.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Skin hydration naturally declines with age as the skin produces less hyaluronic acid and the barrier becomes less effective at retaining water. Hormonal changes particularly accelerate the decline.

With consistent hydration-focused care, dehydration can be reversed and the skin's water content significantly improved.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Hydration responds to several modalities.

Skinvive intradermal HA dramatically improves skin hydration for six to nine months.

HydraFacial cleanses and infuses hydrating serums.

Topical hyaluronic acid serums attract and hold water at the surface.

Barrier-supportive moisturizers with ceramides and squalane prevent water loss.

Microneedling with hydrating serums drives hydration into deeper layers.

How we approach dehydration

Skinvive is our most transformative tool for dehydration. Intradermal HA placed in a microdroplet pattern across the face dramatically improves skin hydration for six to nine months. Most clients see a difference in skin quality immediately.

For ongoing maintenance, we combine HydraFacial with hydrating boosters and prescribed barrier-supportive skincare. The home regimen prevents the dehydration from returning.

For clients with significant dehydration combined with fine lines, we may layer Skinvive with SkinPen microneedling for deeper collagen and hydration improvement.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
