Crepey Skin

Crepey Skin, Smoothed

Crepey skin is the texture that comes from collagen loss and sun damage. The treatments that thicken and tighten skin from within address it best.

The texture that gives away thinning skin.

What it is

Crepey skin describes a thin, finely wrinkled, paper-like texture, most often visible on the neck, chest, arms, and tops of the hands. It looks like crinkled tissue paper, with fine lines running in multiple directions across the surface.

Crepey skin reflects collagen and elastin loss within the dermis. The structural network that keeps skin smooth and resilient has thinned. Treatment focuses on rebuilding that network.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in wanting smoother, more youthful texture on their chest, neck, and arms. They've often tried hydrating creams without significant change. Treatments that stimulate collagen production produce the visible improvement they're looking for.

01

What Causes It

Several factors create crepey skin.

Sun damage is the primary driver, breaking down collagen and elastin over decades. Chronic sun exposure on the chest, arms, and hands is especially common.

Natural aging reduces collagen production starting in the late twenties.

Significant weight loss can leave skin without enough volume beneath it, exaggerating crepey texture.

Hormonal changes particularly perimenopause and menopause, accelerate collagen loss.

Dehydration makes the texture more visible.

02

Common Signs

Crepey skin is most visible on the neck, chest (especially the décolletage), upper arms, inner thighs, and tops of the hands. The texture is finer than wrinkles but creates a similar aged appearance.

It's often more visible when the skin is pulled gently or in certain lighting. Some clients first notice it during weight changes or after pregnancy.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Crepey skin typically appears in the forties and fifties and progresses over decades without treatment. Sun-exposed areas show the texture earliest.

With consistent treatment that builds collagen, crepey skin can be improved meaningfully. Without treatment, the texture progresses.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Crepey skin responds to collagen-building treatments.

Biostimulators like Sculptra stimulate the body's own collagen production for long-term improvement.

Microneedling (SkinPen) with growth factors or PRP builds collagen and improves texture.

Fractional laser (Halo, Moxi) resurfaces and stimulates collagen.

BBL addresses pigment that exaggerates crepey appearance.

Skinvive intradermal HA improves hydration and surface quality.

How we approach crepey skin

Crepey skin needs structural treatment. Surface hydration helps but won't change the underlying texture.

For the chest and neck, our typical plan combines BBL for pigment and surface quality with SkinPen microneedling for collagen building. Sculptra placed in the chest provides longer-term thickening as the biostimulator stimulates the body's own collagen production over months.

For the arms and hands, microneedling and fractional laser (Halo for deeper texture, Moxi for surface) produce reliable improvement across three to four sessions.

Daily SPF and consistent skincare with retinoids are essential. Without those, treatment progress is slow.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
