What it is

Broken capillaries are discrete visible blood vessels, technically called telangiectasias, that appear at the skin's surface. They show up most often on the nose, cheeks, and chin as thin red, purple, or blue lines.

The vessels themselves haven't actually broken. They're permanently dilated capillaries that no longer constrict. Treatment closes them off completely so the body reabsorbs them.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in noticing visible vessels they can no longer cover with makeup. Many have been thinking about treatment for years. Once they learn how predictable and low-downtime the treatment is, most move forward quickly.

01

What Causes It

Several factors create broken capillaries.

Sun damage is the most common cause. UV exposure weakens capillary walls over decades, causing them to permanently dilate.

Aging reduces collagen support around capillaries, making them more visible.

Genetics determine susceptibility. Fair-skinned clients with thin skin develop them more readily.

Trauma like surgery, blunt force, or even aggressive skincare can cause individual capillaries to dilate visibly.

Rosacea and other conditions accelerate the process.

02

Common Signs

Broken capillaries appear as thin red, blue, or purple lines, usually three to five millimeters long. They're most common around the nose, where they often form a small cluster, and on the cheeks.

Some clients have one or two visible vessels. Others have dozens across the central face. Both respond well to treatment.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Broken capillaries accumulate gradually over decades. Each one is permanent without treatment. Without intervention, the visible network typically expands across the central face into the fifties and beyond.

Sun protection slows new vessel formation significantly. Treatment clears existing vessels.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

The industry treats broken capillaries with vascular-specific lasers.

BBL with vascular filter for clusters or multiple vessels across larger areas.

ClearV (Nd:YAG) for individual visible vessels with precision targeting.

Pulsed dye laser at clinics that have it (we don't, but it's an alternative).

Most clients see significant clearance in one to two sessions.

How we approach broken capillaries

Broken capillary treatment is precise and predictable. We use BBL for areas with multiple vessels and ClearV for individual prominent vessels.

The procedure is brief. The laser targets the hemoglobin in the vessel, heating it and closing it off. The body reabsorbs the closed vessel over the following weeks.

Most clients see significant clearance in one to two sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. Larger or deeper vessels may need a third session.

Downtime is minimal. The treated area may be slightly red for 24 to 48 hours.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
