Pore size is largely genetic. Pore appearance is treatable.

What it is

Enlarged pores are pores that appear larger than what most clients consider ideal. The actual size of pores is largely genetic, but the visible appearance depends on several factors: sebum production, surrounding skin laxity, sun damage, and surface texture.

Treatment can't change the genetic pore size, but it can significantly improve how the pores appear by addressing the contributing factors.

Why Patients Seek Treatment

Clients come in wanting smoother, more refined skin texture. They've often tried various pore-minimizing products without significant change. Professional treatment that combines collagen building with sebum control produces visible improvement.

01

What Causes It

Four factors influence pore appearance.

Genetics determine baseline pore size. Oily skin types tend to have more visible pores.

Sebum production stretches and stresses pore walls.

Sun damage reduces skin elasticity around pores, allowing them to appear larger.

Aging reduces collagen and elastin support around pores.

02

Common Signs

Pores appear most visible across the T-zone (nose, forehead, chin) and on the cheeks. They may be more prominent in photos than in person.

Pores tend to be most visible on oily, sun-damaged, or older skin.

03

Why It Changes Over Time

Pores tend to appear larger with age as collagen and elastin around them decrease. Sun damage and chronic sebum production accelerate the change.

With consistent treatment, pore appearance can be improved meaningfully and the progression slowed.

04

How It's Commonly Addressed

Pore appearance responds to several modalities.

Microneedling (SkinPen) stimulates collagen around pores, tightening the surrounding skin.

Fractional laser (Halo, Moxi) resurfaces the surface texture.

BBL addresses pigment irregularities that exaggerate pore appearance.

Retinoid topicals normalize cell turnover and reduce sebum buildup.

Salicylic acid dissolves sebum within pores.

HydraFacial extracts and cleanses pores deeply.

How we approach enlarged pores

Pore refinement is layered. SkinPen microneedling is our foundation tool. Collagen building around pores tightens the surrounding skin and reduces visible size meaningfully across a series of three to four sessions.

For more significant improvement, we add Moxi or Halo for surface resurfacing. The combination addresses both the structural and surface contributors.

HydraFacial every four to six weeks provides ongoing pore cleansing and prevents the sebum buildup that exaggerates appearance.

The home regimen is non-negotiable. Daily retinoid use, salicylic acid cleansing, and barrier-supportive moisturizer maintain results between treatments.

I was truly blown away after my appointment here. Every single person I interacted with, from the front desk to the providers who handled my treatments, was incredible! They made me feel so welcomed and cared for, and were both informative and genuinely kind. The space itself is spotless, cozy, and easily the most inviting place I’ve ever been for Botox. Michelle did my Botox and she was amazing! I also had a hydrafacial and dermaplaning, and I already can’t wait to come back again and again. You will not regret booking here!
